Kick in the Pants sock pattern
Kick in the Pants by Lollipop Yarn
This is a sock “recipe”. It is not a complete pattern and assumes you are familiar with sock knitting and construction. This pattern is designed for self striping socks and is different in that the pattern begins at the color change, not at the beginning of your round.
CO cast on
Slp slip stitch purlwise
To begin CO 54(60,66) stitches. The pattern is a multiple of 3. Choose the size closest to your normal stitch count for the yarn you are using. Join in the round. Proceed with a k1, p1 rib for 1-2”.
The leg pattern begins when your color changes from one stripe to the next. At the color change proceed with rounds 1 and 2.
Round 1: K1,*Sl3p, K3*; repeat ** until 2 sts remain in the round, K2.
Round 2: K1* K1, Slp, K4*; repeat ** until 2 sts remain in the round, K2
Knit plain until color changes again.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 and plain knitting until you are at your desired leg length.
Proceed with your favorite heel. Some great ones for self striping yarn are an Afterthought Heel, Fish Lips Kiss heel, and the OMG heel. Patterns for these can all be found on Ravelry.
Once heel is complete and you are ready to work in the round again you will repeat leg pattern but only on instep and knit all stitches on the sole. Now that we are only using pattern stitches on instep, your color change will now always begin at the beginning of your round.
Round 1: K1,*Sl3p, K3*; repeat ** until 2 sts remain on top of foot, K2. Knit across sole of foot.
Round 2: K1* K1, Slp, K4*; repeat ** until 2 sts remain on top of foot, K2. Knit across sole of foot.
Knit plain until color change.
Repeat rounds 1, 2 and plain knitting, until you are approximately 2 inches from your desired foot length.
Complete the sock using your favorite toe.
